Taking a screenshot on Windows only takes a few seconds. Here are the easiest ways to capture your screen.
Screenshot Part of Your Screen
The easiest method is Windows + Shift + S.
- Press Windows + Shift + S.
- Select the area you want to capture.
- Release the mouse button.
- Your screenshot is copied to your clipboard.
- Press Ctrl + V to paste it into an app, or click the notification to save it.
Screenshot Your Entire Screen
To capture your entire screen:
- Press Windows + PrtScn.
- Your screen will briefly dim.
- The screenshot is automatically saved.

Pictures → Screenshots
Screenshot the Current Window
To capture only the window you’re using:
- Click the window.
- Press Alt + PrtScn.
- Press Ctrl + V to paste the screenshot.
- Save it.
Use the Snipping Tool
Windows includes the Snipping Tool, which lets you capture and edit screenshots.
- Press the Windows key.
- Search for Snipping Tool.
- Open it and select New.
- Select the area you want to capture.
- Edit or save the screenshot.
You can also press Windows + Shift + S to start a screenshot immediately.
Screenshot a Game
To screenshot a game using Xbox Game Bar:
- Press Windows + G.
- Open the capture controls.
- Select the Screenshot button.
Screenshots are saved in:
Videos → Captures
You can also press Windows + Alt + PrtScn.
